I have listed several questions/items to be covered when examining a learning analytics related study. Please add any other items/questions to be covered in the comments section.

1. What are the research questions?
2. What is the context of the stud?
3. What is the research method of the study?
4. What is the method used for analytical inferences? (Prediction, Discovery with models, Text Mining, Relationship Mining etc.)
5. What are the properties of data used in the study, how it is collected? 
6. What is the specific tool or program used for the study? (SPSS, Pajek etc.)?
7. Is it a part of project? If yes name of the project?  
8. What are the results? 
9. Is the study descriptive, diagnostic, predictive or prescriptive ?
10. Who can benefit from the study?
